Shirley L. Evans, 84, Altoona, died unexpectedly Sunday at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Albert "Dutch" and Hilda (Spanogle) Adler.
Surviving are five sons: John Evans Jr. of State College, Randy (Laureen) Evans of Midlothian, Va., Craig Evans of Harrisburg, Brian (Patti) Evans of Bartlett, Ill., and Brent (Laura) Evans of Pittsburgh; four sisters: Pam, Bonnie, Karen and Linda; five brothers: Renny, David, Paul, Mark and James; her stepmother, Kathy Adler; 11 grandchildren: Alex, Randy Jr., Shannon, Heidi, Tom, Todd, Tor, Mike, Joe, Erica and Elyssa; and four great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Jayden, Addison and Sydney.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff; and a brother, Alan Adler.
Shirley was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1949 graduate of Wheaton College. She retired as a math teacher from Keith Junior High School. She attended Altoona Church of God.
Shirley enjoyed painting, camping, attending Penn State football games and Bible study. She was active with Young Life and Story League.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Jerry E. Sneath.
Interment will be in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
