Joseph L. Galanick Sr., 71, Altoona, died Wednesday morning at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., while visiting relatives.
He was born in Coupon, son of the late Joseph and Mabel S. (Dixon) Galanick. He married Sondra Lou Boore on July 26, 2003, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.

Surviving are his wife; four children: Joseph L. Jr. and wife, Jendy, of Sterling, Va., Stephanie Wahl and husband, Paul, of Altoona, Patti Reilly and husband, Nick, of Hollidaysburg and Wendy Diehl and husband, Don, of Rolla, Mo.; and two sisters: Joan Price and husband, Russ, of Altoona and Joanne Byrne and husband, William, of Ashburn, Va.
Joe is also survived by seven grandchildren: Janelle Eichenlaub and husband, Joey, Jacob Defibaugh and friend, Tessa, Joshua Bondi, Eryka Bondi and friend, Jay, Alison Bondi, Morgan Diehl and Michael Diehl; and a very special great-granddaughter, Lillian Eichenlaub, whom Pappy loved very much.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Jane; and an infant son, Joe.
Joe was a 1959 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired in 2010 as a van driver at Maxwell Transport with eight years of service. Previously he had retired in 2002 as a self-employed painter with 30 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.
Joe was a member of the Cesare Battisti Club and a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society. He enjoyed his family and extended family and cooking. He was an avid reader, was active in his church and had boundless generosity.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, the Rev. Dennis Derr officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
