Esther Francis (Smith) Diehl, 90, Golden LivingCenter-Hillview, died Tuesday morning at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Lakemont, daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Woods) Smith. She married Ralph E. Diehl Sr. on April 24, 1943, in Brookes Mills, and she lived in Altoona all her life.
Surviving are a daughter, Doreen Slevin and husband, Paul, of Sedona, Ariz.; two sons: Ralph E. Jr. and wife, Toni, of Altoona and Donald W. and wife, Wendy, of Rolla, Mo.; four grandchildren: Jay, Heather, Michael and Morgan; three great-grandchildren: Noah, Leo and Greyer; and a sister, Betty Beltz of Hollidaysburg.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1997; and three sisters: Sadie, Blanche and Emily.
Esther retired from dining and food service at Penn State Altoona after 17 years of service. She faced whatever came her way in life with a positive outlook and was always there to lend a hand to friends and family in need.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. today, June 15, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Committal will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
