Covering the bases

June 13, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: The Curve's game with Trenton was postponed due to rain Tuesday. The two teams will play a doubleheader tonight, with the first of two seven-inning games beginning at 5 p.m.

SAFE AT FIRST: The Curve announced Tuesday their doubleheader with Akron that was scheduled for June 23 has been moved to Aug. 27. The change in dates for the twinbills prevents Akron from possibly playing in four doubleheaders in eight days. The Curve will host Akron on June 23, with the game starting at 6 p.m.

STEALING SECOND: The Curve have yet to play a home game without C Tony Sanchez, who was called up to Triple-A Indianapolis on June 3. Sanchez was hitting .238 through five games for Indianapolis, and Curve catchers have combined to hit just .083 (2-for-24) since his promotion.

ROUNDING THIRD: 2B Jarek Cunningham is 7-for-17 in his last four games, with three two-hit games to raise his average from .194 to .226.

HEADING HOME: Spikes manager Dave Turgeon said 17-year-old Pirates pitching prospect Luis Heredia will begin the season in State College. Heredia is one of Pittsburgh's top prospects and went 1-2 with a 4.75 ERA
