Don’t dissect Bible

June 5, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

Etta Albright in her April 30 letter to the editor in the Mirror states that Thomas Jefferson cut out verses from the Bible and created his own New Testament.

This statement is correct, however, it clearly was an action that was forbidden by God himself. The reason Jefferson did this is because he was a deist.

As a deist, Jefferson believed that God created everything on earth and then stepped back and had no more interaction in the affairs of mankind. This truly is a mistaken belief.

My God is still active in the world today through the rulers he places in authority over mankind so that his plan for mankind, which is given in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is fulfilled.

If she would have turned to Revelation 22:18-19, she could have read what God said about adding and taking words from the Bible.

Sadly to say, the situation with Jefferson is the case today. The majority of people just take what pleases them from God's word.
