Inter-County Conference, Sideling Hill name all-star teams

Northern Bedford won the Inter-County Conference baseball championship this season, and the loop's South Division all-star team, which was unveiled on Friday, had a heavy Black Panther flavor.

First baseman Logan Fluke, pitcher Eric Grace and shortstop Jake Stern of Northern Bedford all were named to the first team. Meanwhile, outfielder Garrett England and second baseman Isaac Stern were part of the list of honorable mention selectees from the Panthers.

Everett, which tied Northern Bedford for first place in the division, put three players on the South first team - Kyle Droz as a pitcher, Dylan Foor as an infielder and Brian Greenwald as an outfielder. Tussey Mountain infielder Presley Swope rounded out the South Division first-team picks from the Mirror coverage area.

Six area players were part of the North Division first team. Bellwood-Antis and Claysburg-Kimmel each had two - outfielder Jake Stapleton and designated hitter Danny Beech from the Blue Devils and first baseman Trey Claar and infielder Tyler Ickes of the Bulldogs. Juniata Valley pitcher David Ormsby and Glendale outfielder Jarid Ivory rounded out the list.

B-A shortstop Casey Gray and Juniata Valley's Derek Greene and Ryan Norris received honorable mention. West Branch had the most first teamers with four, followed by Mount Union with three.

NORTH DIVISION

Infield-Tyler Ickes (Claysburg-Kimmel), Chad Speigle (West Branch), Curtis Baugh (West Branch), Cory Kylor (Mount Union). Outfield-Trevon Walker (Mount Union), Aaron Lidgett (West Branch), Jake Stapleton (Bellwood-Antis), Jarid Ivory (Glendale).

Pitcher-David Ormsby (Juniata Valley), Parker Emigh (West Branch). Catcher-Boomer Brown (Mount Union). Designated hitter-Danny Beech (Bellwood-Antis). First baseman-Trey Claar (Claysburg-Kimmel).

Honorable mention-Casey Gray (Bellwood-Antis), Derek Greene (Juniata Valley), Ryan McClain (Mount Union), Ryan Norris (Juniata Valley).

SOUTH DIVISION

Infield-Presley Swope (Tussey Mountain), Jake Stern (Northern Bedford), Tristan Douglas (Southern Fulton), Jesse Swope (McConnellsburg), Dylan Foor (Everett), Logan Funk (Fannett-Metal). Outfield-Darren McQuade (McConnellsburg), Brian Greenwald (Everett), Zane Baker (Southern Fulton), Jake Fitz (Southern Fulton).

Pitcher-Eric Grace (Northern Bedford), Kyle Droz (Everett). Catcher-Kyle Shoen (Forbes Road). First baseman-Logan Fluke (Northern Bedford).

Honorable mention-Garrett England (Northern Bedford), Levi Mellott (Southern Fulton), Evan Appleby (McConnellsburg), Isaac Stern (Northern Bedford), Wyatt Brumbaugh (Tussey Mountain).

Lady Bulldogs lead way

Overall champion Claysburg-Kimmel tied for the most North Division first-team selections with three as the Inter-County Conference unveiled its softball all-star team on Friday.

Mount Union also had three North Division first teamers.

Pitcher Ronette Claar, shortstop Lydia Fleck and outfielder Kala Brumbaugh represented Claysburg, which was undefeated in conference play and beat Fannett-Metal in the ICC championship game. Kelsey Shawley (first baseman) and Taylor Payne (pitcher) of North runner-up Bellwood-Antis were the only other area players on the North first team; Lady Devil catcher Jacqueline Finn made honorable mention.

Two players from the Mirror coverage area made the South Division first team: Tussey Mountain's Morgan Lemin was selected at catcher, and Everett outfielder Rachel Clark got the nod at one of the outfield spots.

NORTH DIVISION

SOUTH DIVISION

Infield-Taelor Morton (Southern Fulton), Corri Parsons (Forbes Road), Sarah Pollock (McConnellsburg), Kim Russell (Southern Fulton), Sam Clippinger (Forbes Road). Outfield-Rachel Clark (Everett), Megan Dougherty (Fannett-Metal), Courtney Deshong (McConnellsburg), Joelle Kaminsky (Tussey Mountain).

Pitcher-Blaire Lauthers (Fannett-Metal), Marley Elbin (Southern Fulton), Haley Lashinski (Forbes Road), Jenna Rhodes (Fannett-Metal). Catcher-Morgan Lemin (Tussey Mountain). Designated player-Kelsey White (Southern Fulton).

Honorable mention-Jessi Pittman (McConnellsburg), Morgan Brumbaugh (Tussey Mountain), Kayla Wertz (Southern Fulton).

SHL names all-stars

Co-champion Northern Bedford garnered the most first-team representatives as the Sideling Hill League baseball all-star team was released with the league's softball all-stars on Friday.

The NBC keystone combination of Jake Stern and Isaac Stern earned top team honors for the Black Panthers, as did first baseman Logan Fluke and pitcher Eric Grace. In addition, Northern Bedford outfielder Garrett England made honorable mention.

Everett got pitcher Kyle Droz and outfielder Brian Greenwald on the first team. Tussey Mountain and Chestnut Ridge each had one first-team player each, and both were infielders - the Titans' Presley Swope and Ridge's Brad Hengst.

BASEBALL
