Covering the bases

June 1, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: The Curve finished the month of May with a 16-14 record, a big improvement from their 8-14 record in April.

SAFE AT FIRST: Both 1B Matt Curry and LF Quincy Latimore are day-to-day with injuries and were out of the lineup Thursday. Curry's right hamstring cramped up when he was running the bases Wednesday, and Latimore has now missed four straight games with an infection in his leg.

STEALING SECOND: LF Charlie Cutler was in the lineup for the first time since May 21, and in his first at-bat, he hit a solo home run to right field, his first of the season.

ROUNDING THIRD: Thursday's game was the first of 2012 that went more than nine innings at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The Curve did play an extra-inning game at home on May 5, but it was part of a doubleheader and went eight innings.

HEADING HOME: Altoona continues its homestand tonight as it welcomes Portland to town. This is the first time this season the Curve will face an opponent from the Eastern Division and also the first 7 p.m. start time at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
