Covering the bases

May 17, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: CF Robbie Grossman had a triple to lead off Wednesday's game, and INF Kelson Brown had one in the 10th inning. The Curve now have four triples in their past two game, which pushes the team's triple total to 10 on the season.

SAFE AT FIRST: On their current road trip, opponents have scored eight times in 17 chances in their at-bat after the Curve have scored a run.

STEALING SECOND: Defensive woes have plagued the Curve all season, but Wednesday was the third straight game in which Altoona did not commit an error. However, being errorless does not necessarily guarantee success, since the Curve have a sub-.500 record (6-7) in games in which they had no errors.

ROUNDING THIRD: Brown has been red hot at the plate lately. He extended his hitting streak to eight games, going 3-for-3 against the Baysox. The infielder was hitting just .219 before the streak started, but with 13 hits in his last eight games, Brown has raised his batting average to .351.

HEADING HOME: The Curve are now 7-for-18 (.389) with runners in scoring position in their two wins against Bowie. In their six-game losing streak that preceded the series with the Baysox, they were a dismal 11-for-56 (.196) with RISP.
