Event will benefit the American Cancer Society
HOLLIDAYSBURG - The American Cancer Society's Sapphire and Spurs Gala will be held at 6 p.m. June 1 at the Scotch Valley Country Club.
This year's theme, "Sapphire and Spurs,'' provides an opportunity to incorporate a western flair into the event, which is in its eighth year. The evening will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a martini bar, dinner, dancing, gaming, music by Steve Kelsey and a silent auction.
The American Cancer Society’s Sapphire and Spurs Gala Committee includes (from left): first row — Linda Zorger, Sandra Wall, Roz Sky and Louise Barner; second row — Mary Ellen Jones, Cyndi Cristillo, Betsy Garach and Jan Andrews; third row — Judith Halbritter, Ellie Spangler, Cristin Burwell, Lisa Michelone and Shirley Hoyne. Missing from the photo are Dave Kimmel, Roberta Miller and Susan Nycum.
At the event, the American Cancer Society will honor Judith Ann Halbritter with its highest honor, the Shirley A. Pechter Pinnacle Award, an award to recognize notable volunteer achievements and accomplishments in furthering the mission of the American Cancer Society in Blair County.
It is named for its first recipient, Shirley A. Pechter.
"Judy Halbritter exemplifies the spirit of the award with her outstanding dedication to the mission and goals of the society, the volunteers, and the individuals the Society serves,'' said Jan Andrews, co-chairwoman of the gala committee. "She has been a longtime volunteer, working both in the office, fundraising through the gala, Daffodil Days, Relay For Life and Grocers Fight Cancer Day. Judy has also worked on legislative advocacy with our government representatives.''
Tickets are $125 per person.
Money raised from this event provides cancer patients with services, education programs, and funds cancer research.
