Philipsburg-Osceola snagged the top seed in Class AA, while Altoona, Hollidaysburg and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic all garnered second seeds for the upcoming District 6 high school baseball playoffs.
The district released the seedings and pairings on Friday afternoon. The tournament begins on Tuesday.
Claysburg-Kimmel was the only other Mirror coverage area team to be ranked in the top four in its classification -- the Bulldogs are third in Class A, behind Guilfoyle and Bishop McCort. Penn Cambria and Portage got the fifth seeds in Class AA and A, respectively.
The seedings are calculated on a formula based on wins and schedule strength.
Altoona finished behind only Mifflin County in Class AAAA and will be off until May 20, when the Mountain Lions host third-seeded DuBois in the semifinals.
Hollidaysburg, meanwhile, is sandwiched between top-seeded Somerset and Forest Hills in a three-team Class AAA field. The Golden Tigers will play Forest Hills on May 21.
Guilfoyle, Claysburg and Portage were three of five teams that get first-round byes in the Class A bracket. Guilfoyle will play the winner of the Homer-Center/Ferndale game at Vets Field on May 18, while Claysburg entertains either sixth-seeded Northern Cambria or 11th-ranked Williamsburg that afternoon. Portage is at Conemaugh Valley in the quarterfinals. Juniata Valley also entered and is seeded ninth.
Six area teams are among the 12 filling out the Class AA field -- defending champion Central is seeded sixth, Bellwood-Antis 10th, Tyrone 11th and Cambria Heights 12th. Mount Union finished as the second seed to P-O.
Penn Cambria hosts Heights in an all-Laurel Highlands Conference first-round game on Tuesday, while Tyrone is at Mountain League rival Central and Bellwood is at Inter-County Conference North foe West Branch.
Philipsburg-Osceola opens with the winner of the game between Bald Eagle Area and Blairsville.
The four championship games will be played at People Natural Gas Field on May 24-25.
