PHILIPSBURG - Christian Helsel led off the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run and then struck out a batter with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom half of the inning to lift Altoona to an 8-7 win over Philipsburg-Osceola in high school baseball on Thursday.
Helsel went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
Anthony Lombardo had two doubles and two RBIs for Altoona, J.D. Green had two hits, and Ben Wyland delivered a key two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning.
Mike Marcinko, Cody Lee and Mark Curtis each had two hits for Philipsburg-Osceola.
