Fleck delivers in C-K’s victory over Bellwood

May 4, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

CLAYSBURG - It's a good thing Lydia Fleck has a short memory.

One day after struggling in a win over Moshannon Valley, Claysburg-Kimmel's Fleck came up big in her team's 3-2 win over Bellwood-Antis Thursday afternoon in high school softball action.

"She struck out twice [against Moshannon Valley] and she was all depressed and I told her before the game that she was thinking about it too much. I told her to just let her body take over," Claysburg-Kimmel coach Mike Barbarini said.

Down 1-0, Fleck delivered an RBI single in the third to tie the game up. Down 2-1, Fleck delivered a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Both hits came with two outs.

Winning pitcher Ronette Claar gave up four hits, struck out 11 and walked one. Tough-luck losing pitcher Taylor Payne scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked one. Jackie Finn and Kelsey Decker each drove in a run for Bellwood.

Claysburg is now 15-0, while Bellwood fell to 14-3.
