Penn State receiver Devon Smith has been charged by university police with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, stemming from a search of his apartment in March.
Smith once shared the apartment with former PSU defensive end Jack Crawford, although Crawford reportedly had not lived there for several months. Crawford has not been charged with anything.
Smith missed all of spring drills with a foot injury. He was third on the team with 25 catches for 402 yards in 2011.
Crawford was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round of the NFL draft Saturday. He was the 158th overall pick.
Nine picks earlier, offensive lineman Johnnie Troutman was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round with the 149th overall pick.
Linebacker Nate Stupar was the final Penn State player drafted, going to the Raiders in the seventh round (230th overall).
The Nittany Lions had four players drafted this year. Defensive tackle Devon Still was selected in the second round Friday by the Cincinnati Bengals (53rd overall).
Several undrafted Penn State players agreed to free-agent deals with NFL teams following the draft.
They include: WR Derek Moye (Dolphins), CB D'Anton Lynn (Jets), CB Chaz Powell (Raiders), S Nick Sukay (Bills) and DE Eric Latimore (Vikings).
Lynn was picked up by the same team that employs his father, Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn.
