Covering the bases

April 24, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: The Curve were off Monday and are scheduled to start a three-game homestand tonight against Harrisburg. It's supposed to rain during the afternoon and evening, however, so tonight's game could be in jeopardy. The Curve already have had two home games rained out.

SAFE AT FIRST: Tonight's pitching matchup will be Curve RHP Mike Colla (0-2, 5.14) vs. Senators RHP Jeff Mandel (1-1, 0.96).

STEALING SECOND: Mandel leads the Eastern League in ERA. He shut out the Curve on four hits for seven innings his last time out and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, essentially doing all the damage in Harrisburg's 4-0 win.

ROUNDING THIRD: RHP Zach Foster has been sent back to high-A Bradenton after spending only four days with the Curve. He pitched 2 2/3 innings Friday night against Richmond and allowed four runs on three hits.

HEADING HOME: Tonight's promotion: Two for Tuesday (two-for-one tickets, hot dogs and small popcorn).
