A 75-year-old Altoona man was beaten and robbed Tuesday in his Sixth Avenue home, city police said Wednesday.
It happened about 9:10 a.m. at a home on the 500 block of Sixth Avenue, police said.
A friend of the victim said Wednesday the man suffered numerous cuts and bruises on his head and face and that his eyes were swollen shut from the beating.
The friend, Donald Bowers of Altoona, said he visited the victim at Altoona Regional on Wednesday and noticed also that his hand was swollen, he suspected from a defense wound.
The man allegedly had sold a car over the weekend and had received some money for it. Bowers estimated that robbers took about $1,100.
"Brutal, brutal," Bowers said in describing the beating. "Whoever did this is evil."
Bowers said his friend was able to talk and get out of bed.
Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to call 949-2489, Detective Matthew Starr said Wednesday.
