Library hosts oldies band
TYRONE - The Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library will hold its 11th annual Library Oldies Fundraising Concert at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the Tyrone Area High School Auditorium.
This year's concert will be headlined by Jay and the Americans, a 1960s doo-wop group which had big hits with the songs "She Cried," "This Magic Moment" and "Come a Little Bit Closer." The group now includes original member Sandy Deanne and long-time members Howie Knane and Marty Sanders, along with lead singer Jay Reincke.
The show will also feature the doo-wop group The Edsels, who recorded the classic song "Rama Lama Ding Dong," and the Tyrone Area High School Jazz Band.
Tickets for the show are $35 and can be purchased at Bressler Food Mart & Sports, Kopp Drug and the library, all in Tyrone, or by calling 682-1017.
Arts council holds concert
BEDFORD - The Bedford County Arts Council's "Friday Night Music" series continues at 7 p.m. today with Borrowed Time and special guests performing at the Anderson House, 137 E. Pitt St.
Borrowed Time consists of singer/songwriters Mike Clapper, Chad Patterson, Gus Robinson and Dave Wagner.
The group plays original music which ranges from rock to folk to southern rock to blues. Karlee Williams and Alex Dierling will join them as special guests.
A $3 suggested donation is accepted at the door. All ages are welcome. The event is also BYOB.
Popular music on show slate
HUNTINGDON - The Juniata College Concert Band will hold a spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
The band will play songs from film scores and TV shows and American standards.
Tickets are $5 for adults and are free for those under 18 and Juniata students with a current student I.D.
Juniata group to perform
HUNTINGDON - The Juniata College Jazz Ensemble will play standards and a few contemporary pieces in concert at 1 p.m. Saturday in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.
The group will play jazz standards by Billy Strayhorn, Rogers and Hart and Miles Davis, as well as other songs.
Tickets are $3 for adults and free for those under age 18. Juniata students with a current ID are also admitted free.
Sax quartet to play show
BEDFORD - On Saturday, the New Century Saxophone Quartet will present a concert at the Bedford United Methodist Church, 132 E. John Street.
The only ensemble of its kind to ever win First Prize of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the New Century Saxophone Quartet's program ranges from the Baroque to innovative contemporary works.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door, with students through high school paying half-price. Tickets are available at the Visitors Bureau and Fisher's Pharmacy in Bedford and at Everett Rexall Pharmacy. For more information, call 733-2301.
