Claar whiffs 14 in C-K’s victory over MU

CLAYSBURG - Ronette Claar's 14-strikeout performance helped Claysburg-Kimmel defeat Mount Union, 4-2, in high school softball on Thursday.

Claar also knocked in two runs on a triple as the Lady Bulldogs (6-0) had a four-run third inning. Madison Ickes hit a solo homer, and Kayla Brumbaugh knocked in the other run.

ALEXANDRIA - Abbie Zinobile hit a fifth-inning grand slam, and Heather Carper tossed a one-hitter to lead Juniata Valley to a six-inning win over Glendale.

Carper also had two hits, as did Janay McCrum. Carper had a no-hitter until Katelyn Matthews, who was the opposing pitcher, singled with two outs in the sixth.

Tiger juniors win, tie

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg defeated Altoona, 7-6, in the first game of a junior high doubleheader, and the teams tied, 5-5, in the second game due to the 1-hour time limit.

In the first game, Hollidaysburg's Macie Sparks had the go-ahead double in the fourth inning. Marissa Maher went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Makayla Focht struck out nine. In the second game, Focht had two hits and two RBIs.

Hollidaysburg is 1-1-1. Altoona is 0-2-1.

7th grade: Hollidaysburg, 5-3 in Game 1, 12-5 in Game 2.

C-K juniors lose

CLAYSBURG - Mount Union defeated Claysburg-Kimmel, 19-0, in three innings to drop the Lady Bulldogs record to 1-3 this season.
