Delozier, Ritchey receive Blair Hall scholarships

April 4, 2012
From Mirror reports

Adena Delozier of Altoona Area High School and Matt Ritchey of Central High School are the recipients of the 2012 Blair County Sports Hall of Fame scholarships.

Each will receive a check for $2,000 at the Hall of Fame's 15th induction dinner on Saturday, April 28 at the Blair County Convention Center.

Delozier is a four-year starter in volleyball for the Lady Lions - 175 straight matches - and contributed to three District 6 Class AAA championships. She is among the statistical leaders in every category of Altoona High volleyball history, including first in all-time service points (806) and assists (2,305).

She has committed to playing at Juniata College in the fall.

In the classroom, Delozier ranks 23rd of a graduating class of 515 and has an SAT score of 1720.

She is president of the Altoona's speech league team and is an alter sever at St. John of the Evangelista Church.

Ritchey won six letters at Central, participating in football, basketball and track & field. He quarterbacked the Central football team, passing for more than 1,000 yards, and was a first-team Mountain League Allegheny Division selection in basketball.

He was recognized last weekend as a scholarship recipient by the Central PA Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

Ritchey is ranked sixth in his class of 125 and scored 1720 on his SATs.

He was a chapter president in the Future Farmers of America and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"The Hall of Fame has recognized many of Blair County's outstanding student-athletes over the years, and we believe Adena Delozier and Matt Ritchey are among them," Hall of Fame president Dave Andrews said. "They have distinguished themselves in the classroom and in athletic competition, and we look forward to recognizing them."

Through the help of Reliance Bank, which sponsors the scholarships, the Hall of Fame has now awarded $84,000 in scholarships in 24 years.

Set for induction April 28 are former St. Francis basketball player and current Williamsburg coach Don Appleman, former Maryland football player Todd Benson, former minor league baseball player Harold "Bucky" Bush, former Duquesne University and WNBA player Candace Futrell, former Villanova basketball player Allen Griffith and Tyrone Area High School's PIAA championship football team of 1999.

Ken Koronowski, who started the Altoona Area Youth Hockey Association, will receive the Hall's Community Service Award.

The featured speaker for the evening is Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Tickets are priced at $85 each or $850 for tables of 10. Corporate packages, which include 10 tickets to Saturday night's banquet, 10 tickets to Friday night's inductee reception and a photo with Roethlisberger, are also available.
