Two area wrestlers place at nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Two local wrestlers placed in the National High School Coaches Association Tournament on Friday.

Penn Cambria's Seth McLendon and Chestnut Ridge's Austin Buttry finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at 220 and 285 in the sophomore division.

Ten other area wrestlers competed in the event.

Altoona's T.J. Brandt is wrestling in Flo Nationals at Drexel University.

Bedford bounces TM

SAXTON - Caleb Goodin and Joey Twigg each picked up singles wins and combined for a doubles win as Bedford beat Tussey Mountain, 6-1, in high school boys tennis action.

Jack Bittner, Kenny Ward and Vit Bruzek also picked up singles wins for the Bisons.

Tussey Mountain's Neal Smith and John Clark won a doubles match.

Huskies blank 'Cats

HUNTINGDON- Huntingdon was blanked by Mifflin County, 7-0, in high school tennis.

The Bearcats fell to 2-2.

Dragons fall in extras

MARTINSBURG-Cole Kreider scored the only run for Central as the Scarlet Dragons fell to Mifflin County, 2-1, in eight innings in high school baseball.

Zach Croft struck out eight for Central, which dropped to 2-2.

Carroll juniors win

EBENSBURG - Behind 16 assists from Jess Shaffer, Bishop Carroll beat Hollidaysburg, 25-18, 25-13, in junior high girls volleyball.

Hannah Cotchen added eight service point, and Ellie Yahner record 12 kills for the undefeated Lady Huskies (3-0).

Hannah Civils had six service points for Hollidaysburg, which fell to 0-3.

JV: Bishop Carroll 25-22, 25-7

B-A juniors roll

ROARING SPRING - Bellwood-Antis beat Spring Cove, 25-18, 25-15 in junior high girls volleyball action on Thursday.

JV: Spring Cove, 13-25, 25-16, 15-9

Correction

Tom Drennon was incorrectly identified as an assistant boys basketball coach at Westmont Hilltop High School in Thursday's Mirror. Drennon has no role with the team.
