Williamsburg edges Glendale for first win

FLINTON - Paige Pearson, Caitlin England and Carly England each collected two hits to help Williamsburg win, 5-4, at Glendale in high school softball Thursday.

It was the first win of the year for Williamsburg.

Winning pitcher Tori Murtiff scattered five hits over seven innings, struck out 10 and walked just two. Glendale got a home run and two RBIs from Kelli McGarvey. Teammate Cassie Spangle also drove in two runs, while Katelyn Matthews added two hits.

LOYSBURG - Madi McFarland hit a walk-off triple, driving in courtesy runner Kelly Yingling in the bottom of the eighth, to clinch a win for Northern Bedford against Forbes Road in the first game of the Lady Panthers' doubleheader sweep.

Clarice Fluke belted a two-run home run in the fifth for the Lady Panthers.

In the nightcap, Morgan Eshelman fanned 10 batters after giving up five runs in the first inning to lead Northern Bedford. Harley Bruening belted a RBI triple for the winners.

CLAYSBURG - Kari Glass had a triple with four RBIs as Claysburg-Kimmel hammered Moshannon Valley, 19-9, in junior high school softball. Sam Fickes smacked a double with two RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs, who are 1-1.
