PITTSBURGH - When a high school softball team's road trip plans fell through, the chairman of the Pittsburgh Pirates stepped up to the plate.
Team chairman Bob Nutting has chartered a bus to bring the Baldwin High School softball team home from a tournament in South Carolina later this week.
The Baldwin girls were left in the lurch when Myrtle Beach-based Direct Air suspended all flights last week - including the team's fight home.
Nutting says he didn't want the team's hard work to go to waste.
The Baldwin Softball Boosters say they would have lost $10,000 in fees and hotel rooms if they had to cancel the trip.
