Sweetie Pie's Rolls
1 cake, pack or tablespoon of dry yeast
3 cups warm water
3 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
8 cups flour
If using cake, mix with one cup warm water and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Let stand for 45 minutes. This is not necessary if using dry yeast.
Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup shortening and 1 egg in separate bowl.
Mix 2 cups warm water and 3 teaspoon salt and the yeast mixture. Combine with shortening, egg and sugar mixture.
Add 8 cups flour and knead thoroughly.
Pinch off slightly larger than golf ball-sized pieces and coat each one lightly with flour. Flatten each one, add a piece of butter in each middle and fold in half. Place in a greased sheet or pan and raise for three hours, or until they double in size. Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 mins.
