Lions get another verbal

March 18, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

Penn State has been doing a good job recruiting offensive playmakers for its 2013 class, and now it has picked up someone to block for them.

Brendon Mahon, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound guard from Randolph, N.J., made a pledge to the Nittany Lions on Saturday while making a weekend unofficial visit to Penn State with his parents. Mahon is the fifth prospect to verbally commit to the Lions already in this class and the third offensive player, joining four-star quarterback Christian Hackenberg and Adam Breneman, the top-rated tight end in the country.

Mahon is the 190th-ranked player in the country and a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com. He chose Penn State over Rutgers but also had offers from Florida, UCLA, North Carolina, Boston College, UConn and West Virginia, among others.

Penn State is expected to bring in four offensive linemen in this recruiting class.

Another player the Lions were pursuing has chosen to go with one of their rivals, instead. Warren, Ohio, Howland running back Deveon Smith announced he was picking Michigan over Ohio State and Penn State.
