Shirley J. (Hippo) Bookhamer, 73, Altoona, passed away Wednesday evening at her home.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Jesse L. and Mary E. (Drexler) Hippo. She married Thomas F. Bookhamer, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2007.
Surviving are two sons: Donald C. and wife, Tawney, and Michael S. and wife, Judy; a stepson, Thomas Jr. and wife, Jennifer; two grandsons: Corey and Ian; four step-grandsons: Aaron, Adam, Dana and Carl; a sister, Helen M. Wolfe; a brother, Ernest L. Hippo and wife, Alberta; and two sisters-in-law: Shirley Hippo and Joann Hippo.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth O. and Charles W. Hippo.
Shirley retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a caseworker in energy assistance. Her greatest joys in life were her loving husband, sons and grandsons.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, Pastor Dick Steurnagle officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society or Relay For Life.
