Mirror Classic coaches are set

The coaches are set for the seventh annual Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic.

Hollidaysburg Area High School's Deanna Jubeck and Williamsburg's Mike Farrell have been selected to coach the Blair County teams while Conemaugh Valley's Teri Cruse and Chestnut Ridge's Randy Meck will head the Central PA teams.

The Mirror Classic will be played Friday, March 30, at Mount Aloysius College. The girls game will tip at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 8.

Jubeck has led the Lady Tigers to a 37-14 record with a pair of District 6 Class AAA championships in two seasons.

The 2011 Mirror coach of the year, Jubeck coached collegiately at St. Francis University, her alma mater, from 2001-04, and helped the Red Flash advance to three NCAA Tournaments. She was a four-year starter at St. Francis and played in three NCAA tourneys as well.

Jubeck was also a member of Altoona Area High School's 1995-96 PIAA championship teams.

Tickets for the Altoona Mirror Basketball?Classic are priced at $5 for the doubleheader for adults and $3 for students 12 and under.

The game will be played on?Friday, March 30, at Mount Aloysius. The girls game is at 6:30 p.m.?The boys game follows. Tickets will be sold at the Mirror (301 Cayuga Avenue) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and will be available at the Mount gymnasium beginning at 5:30 p.m. on March 30. Team rates (15 tickets for $45) are available by calling Bob Eger at 949-7261. The doubleheader, sponsored by Guy Landolfi CPA, is played in memory of Big John and Tom Riley, and proceeds benefit the Big John Riley Scholarship Fund.

Cruse has been at Conemaugh Valley for nine years, and her record of 179-62 includes the District 6, Class A championship in 2006 - when the Lady Blue Jays were the PIAA runnerup.

A graduate of CV, Cruse was a 1,000-point scorer in high school and played in the Big John Riley Game in 1987.

She was a standout at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she holds single-season field goal percentage record of (64.5) and will be inducted into the UPJ Hall of Fame for basketball and volleyball later this spring.

Farrell has coached six years at Williamsburg, where his career record stands at 88-82, including 14-9 this past season.

He was the Juniata Valley League coach of the year in 2008, when the Blue Pirates won the JVL title and won the Inter County Conference North Division.

Meck has completed four seasons at Ridge, where his record is 47-50, including 18-7 this season, and 99-121 in nine seasons overall. A 1,000-point scorer at Tussey Mountain, graduating in 1998, Meck previously coached five seasons at Forbes Road.

Rosters will be announced on Sunday, March 25.
