The Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic and Hollidaysburg girls are sticking together during their runs through the PIAA high school girls basketball playoffs.
The Lady Marauders and Lady Tigers will be playing as part of a second round doubleheader on Wednesday night at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Memorial Field House against opponents from the Pittsburgh area, the PIAA announced on this afternoon.
Guilfoyle and Hollidaysburg, the respective District 6 champions in Class A and Class AAA, comprised the first two-thirds of a doubleheader at the Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Lady Marauders will tip things off at 6 p.m. against Fort Cherry in the rematch of a very competitive game from last year's PIAA tournament. Both teams are 24-2.
Hollidaysburg will be in the nightcap, taking the court at approximately 7:30 to face District 7 runner-up South Park. The Lady Tigers are trying to make it into the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1994.
In other games of regional interest that night, the Conemaugh Valley girls take on District 11 champion Tri-Valley at Big Spring High School in Newville at 7 in Class A, and the Conemaugh Township boys meet perennial state power Beaver Falls in Class AA at Hempfield High School in Greensburg at 7:30. On Tuesday at Hempfield, the Forest Hills girls clash with Keystone Oaks in a Class AA game at 6, followed by the District 6 Class AAA champ Johnstown boys play Hampton at 7:30. Meanwhile, at IUP, the Conemaugh Township girls and Shade boys will be part of a twinbill against Seton-LaSalle and Lincoln Park, respectively.
