A check of the PIAA Class AAA Championships pairings at 160 shows two names that have wrestling fans talking about a likely finals matchup.
Kennard Dale's phenom Chance Marsteller, who many think is the next Cary Kolat, is 39-0 as a sophomore 160-pounder and is a returning 152-pound state champion. In the other bracket at 160 is Central Mountain's returning 145-pound state champ Brian Brill (38-0).
Marsteller is ranked first in the nation at 160 by most ranking services, including Amateur Wrestling News. Brill is ranked fourth by AWN.
Marsteller has 19 pins, a gaudy 19 technical falls and an 11-4 decision over Norristown's Brett Harner. Brill has 31 pins and also beat Harner by seven points, 9-2.
BC advances all 10
Bethlehem Catholic advanced all 10 of its Southeast Regional Class AA Tournament qualifiers to the state tournament, had four champions and eight finalists.
One of the runners-up was Randy Cruz, who lost to Biglerville's Laike Gardner, 4-2 in overtime, at 132. Both were state runners-up last year - Cruz at 119 and Gardner at 130.
Canon-McMillan dominates
Canon-McMillan had eight Southwest Regional Class AAA finalists, four champs and set a regional record with 216.5 points, winning the team title by 104.5 points over Central Catholic.
C-M's Cody Wiercioch, a state runner-up for Charleroi in Class AA last year, won at 170 and was voted the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.
