JOHNSTOWN - A check of the team standings after the first day of the Southwest Regional Tournament shows Bedford, Claysburg-Kimmel and Chestnut Ridge as the top three teams, and they're all separated by a total of four points.
A check of all three coaches revealed that Bedford's Brian Creps, C-K's Dave Marko and Ridge's Greg Lazor thought their teams could have done better.
Bedford leads C-K by a point, 36-35, and Ridge, which sent eight wrestlers to the Southwest Regional after winning the team title, is in third with 32 points.

Bellwood-Antis’ Jared Woomer (top) earns his 100th career win over Bedford’s Garrett?Thomas at 120 pounds.
"Our goal coming into the tournament as a team was to place as high as we could, and place first if possible," Creps said. "We had a couple things go against us in that last round, but the four kids we have left, we're in pretty good shape. If we can get four to the state tournament, we'll be pretty happy. I'm just a little disappointed that some of our kids didn't wrestle a little better in that last round."
"Disappointing," Lazor said. "We had a couple real good weeks of practice. We felt real good coming in. Not sure if we were in a little bit of awe or something else, but I think we could have wrestled a lot better today. I expect us to improve on this."
Fourteen area wrestlers advanced to this morning's semifinals, which are scheduled for 11, and C-K had the most with three in Josh Brown (106), James Dodson (132) and Ty Dively (138).
"We maybe could have had more," Marko said.
C-K's Tyler Ickes dropped a 5-2 decision to Ridge's Tyler Dibert at 170, and 285-pounder Titus Feathers was in a tight bout with Summit Academy's Kenyatta McCloud until he was pinned in 5:25. Ickes rebounded with a pin, but Feathers was eliminated by Ridge's Austin Buttry, 8-2.
"Tyler got a hurt, and then he gave up a caution point against Dibert," Marko said. "Titus had that match won seemingly won on a couple different occasions, and that's something you can't do in a tournament like this."
Bedford advanced two in Ryan Easter (113) and Jacob Krupa (220), while the Ridge duo of Shane Pfaunmiller (126) and Dibert also advanced. Easter reached the semis with a 4-2 win over Beth-Center's fellow returning state placer Zach Swarrow. He'll face another state placer, Ligonier Valley Josh Patrick, to get a chance at probably wrestling Kittanning state champ Jason Nolf.
"Easter has been wrestling really well lately," Creps said. "To get a nice win like that was a big boost for him."
To no one's surprise, Central Cambria's Ben Rager (126) and Tony Risaliti (160) made the semis. Both had pins in their only bouts, and they're getting closer to big finals bouts. Rager is a win away from facing Derry Area's three-time state champ Jimmy Gulibon, who faces Pfaunmiller in the semis, and Risaliti could be facing his fourth encounter with Forest Hills friend Cody Law.
"Oh, they looked good," CC coach Bob Nikolishen said. "The plan was to get one in and then go home. You want them to be solid. You want them to have a good workout. You want to see some good movement. They were both very, very solid on their feet. Good stuff out of both of them."
Bellwood-Antis' Jared Woomer (120), Moshannon Valley's Dylan Ludwig (182), Northern Bedford's Damian Corle (132), Penn Cambria's Nick Szala (138) and Cambria Heights' Ross Inzana (170) also advanced to the semis. Corle will wrestle Dodson in the semis.
The highly aniticipated semifinal bout between Szala and Dively came to fruition without a hitch. Szala earned an 8-2 decision over Burrell's Phillip Marra in his only bout, and Dively rolled to the semis with a pin and an 11-0 major decision over Meyersdale's Seith Deist.
"We'll see what happens," Marko said. "Szala is wrestling really well, and right now Ty looks to be wrestling pretty well."
Two area guys were upset in the quarterfinals. Moshannon Valley's James Stodart (195) suffered his first loss, 2-1 in the tiebreaker, to Avella's Jacob Temple. Northern Bedford's Quinton Hixson dropped a 9-7 decision to Valley's Kyre Strickland. Both came rebounded with pins in their consolation bouts.
"James lost the disk flip in the second period in that match [against] Temple, and that was kind of the difference in that match," Mo Valley coach Justin Fye said. "He didn't open up as much as we could, but he came back ready to wrestle in next match."
For Woomer, who opened with a 37-second pin of Blackhawk's Jake Braddock, his 6-5 win over Bedford's Garrett Thomas in the quarters was extra special. It was his 100th career victory, become only the fourth Blue Devil to reach the milestone, joining Tracey Karlie (1984), Woomer's coach, Ron Wilson (1981), and teammate Trevor Helsley.
"It feels pretty good. I've been waiting all year for that," said Woomer, whose march to 100 was delayed late in the season by an accident in shop class. "He's pretty tough. It was pretty close at the end, but I just tried to stay in good position."
"That's huge for him," Wilson said of the 100th win. "With what happened at the end of the year, we weren't sure he was going to get it."
Woomer and Helsley are the first B-A wrestlers to reach 100 wins in the same year. Helsley went 2-1 Friday, losing to Charleroi's Nick Gavazzi, 6-2, in the quarters, but rebounding with a 15-4 win over Carlynton's David Dedola.
"He has a couple tough kids to even be in position to place," Wilson said. "As far as his wrestling ability, we're sure he can do it."
Notes: The area still has 19 wrestlers still alive in the consolations. ... Blairsville's Noah Tarr earned two wins, including a 6-5 win over NBC's Drew Gartland in the quarters, to reach 100 wins as junior. ... The championship finals, third- and fifth-place finals are scheduled for 5 p.m.
