Derry’s Gulibon captures 4th District 7 title

Derry's three-time state champion Jimmy Gulibon captured his fourth District 7 Class AA title Saturday with an 11-4 win over Keystone Oaks' Nick Zanetta in the 126-pound finals.

Gulibon missed much of the season with a partial miniscus tear, and according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he wore a brace on his right leg. Gulibon, who is in the opposite bracket from Central Cambria's undefeated Ben Rager, wasn't happy with how he wrestled in the finals.

"I didn't go out there on the offensive like I should have," Gulibon told the Post-Gazette. "I sort of [held] back after I got my takedowns. It was unacceptable. I didn't wrestle to my ability."

Kittanning's returning state champ Jason Nolf breezed to the 113-pound title, beating Jefferson-Morgan's John Demaske, 16-2, in the 113-pound finals.

Stone wins third

Clearfield's Christian Stone captured his third District 9 title Saturday to advance to the Northwest Regional, where he'll be joined at 120 by Brashear's four-time District 8 champ Godwin Nyama, Bellefonte's three-time District 6 champ Tom Traxler and Altoona's freshman star D.J. Hollingshead.

BC has eight champs

Bethlehem Catholic put 10 wrestlers in the District 11 Class AA Tournament finals, and BC set a tournament record with eight champs. The Golden Hawks, who qualified 10 for the Northeast Regional, won the team title by 87 points, 274-187, over Pen Argyl.
