Ernest E. "Ernie" Oswald, 77, Altoona, died Sunday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Fred T. and Eleanora (Lukehart) Oswald. He married Marie V. Bott on Nov. 29, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Mark E. of Altoona; a daughter, Cynthia M. at home; five grandchildren: Krista and Peggy Messner and Jada, Laura and Alicia Oswald; eight great-grandchildren: Jayce Johnston, Avan Oswald, Jasmyn Gasper, Selena and Gage Hasselbarth and Brock, Tanner and Jordan Schnarrs; and a daughter-in-law, Barb Oswald.

Ernie was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Midstate Tool & Supply Inc. as a customer service representative. He was of the Lutheran faith and a member of Unter Uns, Bavarian Aid Society and Swiss Rifle Club.
Ernie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hunting, fishing, music, watching war movies and feeding wildlife.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona (www.myerssomersfuneralhome.com).
