The seventh annual Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic will be held Friday, March 30 at Mount Aloysius College.
The doubleheader pits the top seniors from Blair County against Central PA with the girls game tipping off at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at 8.
After six years at St. Francis, and the previous 22 as the Big John Riley Game, the Classic is shifting its venue because of a new rule in NCAA men's basketball that precludes Division I institutions from hosting all-star games.
The rule does not apply to Divisions II and III.
"We want to thank St. Francis for hosting the Mirror Classic and the Big John Riley game all these years," Mirror Classic game director Neil Rudel said. "We appreciate Mount Aloysius accommodating us on short notice, and we look forward to a great atmosphere to showcase local high school basketball there as well."
Rosters, coaches and honorary captains will be announced in the coming weeks.
Tickets, priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens, will be available at the door beginning at 5:30 p.m. on March 30. Team rates (15 tickets for $45) are available in advance by calling Bob Eger at 949-7261.
The Classic is played in memory of Big John and Tom Riley, and proceeds from the game will benefit the Big John Riley Scholarship Fund.
