East Coast closeout begins

February 11, 2012
By William Kibler (bkibler@altoonamirror.com) , The Altoona Mirror

Customers were numerous as the going out of business closeout sale began Friday for East Coast Gun Sales on Fairway Drive.

Vehicles were parked on both sides of the road and in other facilities' parking lots for more than a half mile, as hunters and marksmen looked for bargains in the store, which the company opened only a few months ago after moving out of its smaller previous location in Duncansville.

A man who was apparently in a position of authority over the sale said he had no comment, when asked the reason for the going out of business sale so soon after the move.

He identified himself by name, but declined to say who he was working for - except to say that he wasn't an East Coast employee.

In the parking lot, a few hours after the sale began, customer Terry Bardell of Bedford said he didn't know the cause of the closeout.

Paul Clark of Everett said he heard about it only this week and "couldn't believe it."

The closeout featured lots of good deals, though, Bardell said.

His brother was inside buying items for him, Bardell said.

He wasn't inside himself "because I'm not a line-stander," he said.

"I had enough of that in the Army," he stated.

A Mirror ad stated the store will shut down Feb. 25.

"It's a shame," Clark said.
