AMBRIDGE - Kayla DeCriscio set a school record with nine 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lead Altoona to a 65-44 win over Ambridge in high school girls basketball Saturday.
DeCriscio buried five 3-pointers in the first quarter alone, then hit three in the third quarter. She broke the record in the fourth quarter by sinking a trey despite facing a box-and-one defense.
DeCriscio had shared the school record of eight 3-pointers, reaching that feat last season against Reading. Katy Oblinger also hit eight in 2007.
"The team made it their mission to get her the ball," Altoona coach Jill Helsel said. "A lot of the kids who normally score a lot were emphasizing getting her the ball. When she had the five threes in the first quarter, I think everyone was excited for her."
Kayla Grimme had 15 points for Altoona, which led 38-17 at the half. Katie Fischer poured in 30 points for Ambridge.
