TYRONE - Philipsburg-Osceola gave up 24 points in the first four matches against Central Mountain Saturday, and it didn't get any better for the Mounties from there.
The defending District 6 Class AAA dual meet champs walked over the Centre County team by a 60-13 score in the semifinals of the District 6 Duals event at Tyrone. Central Mountain advanced into the state bracket with a 46-18 win over Mifflin County, which squeezed by Westmont-Hilltop, 36-26, in the other semifinal.
The telling sign for how the Mounties' only match of the day was going to play out happened in the first two minutes - actually, fewer than two minutes, as there was just 1:41 of actual wrestling before the Wildcats were up 24-0, with three pins and a forfeit.
"It wouldn't have mattered who we had today, we didn't come to wrestle," Philipsburg-Osceola coach Tim McCamley said, and then admitted that was largely academic. "We could have come to wrestle and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. We're still two to three guys shy of being our district team."
Brad Anstine put P-O (11-3) on the scoreboard with a decision at 195, one of only three matches in which the Mounties got points - and one of those was a forfeit. The next actual wrestling win for the fourth seed came in the final bout, when Logan Walstrom took a major decision over Chad Reese. Chris Thompson got the free one at 106.
Central Mountain got pins in all but two of the matches it won; along with the opening forfeit, the Wildcats had two decisions.
"We'd have to be on top of the world, and invent some new kids, too," McCamely said. "Those people who say Central Mountain's down, they obviously haven't wrestled them lately. They're just a tough, tough team."
