Albert Roy ‘Ab’ Sprankle

Albert Roy "Ab" Sprankle, 85, of 664 Hayes St., Tyrone, died Tuesday at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Thomastown, Snyder Township, son of Curtin and Sarah (Wyland) Sprankle. He married Janet Brown on July 7, 1945, in Juniata.

Surviving are his wife; five children: Lexi Hunter (Jeff) of Tyrone, Dale (Kara) of Columbia, Tenn., Alan (Christine) of Mountville, Starlene Renee Johnson (William) of Tyrone and Jeffrey (Esterlita) of Altoona; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: his twin Robert D., Charles, Harold and Herbert; two sisters: Mary and Betty Sprankle; an infant son, Dennis; two granddaughters: Lisa Smith and Beth Sprankle; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaydance Eaken.

Ab was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired in 1988 from Albert's Market on Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone, and had worked at Juniata Packing for many years. He was a custom butcher for life and was known for his famous sausage. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Interment will be at Grazierville Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are by Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
