Mounties capture thriller over BEA

PHILIPSBURG - Philipsburg-Osceola won two close bouts in the final three weights, including Chris Thompson's 3-0 win over returning District 6 Class AAA champion Travis Giedroc in the meet-ender at 106, to secure a 37-36 high school wrestling win over Bald Eagle Area Wednesday.

The teams actually tied at 36-36, but the Mounties won the dual meet on Criteria D, which is most bout wins. P-O had eight bout wins to BEA's six.

P-O sophomore Nick Gray earned a 2-1 win over Ben Verbitsky at 220 to break a 30-30 tie. Bryan Descavish (113) and Jeffrey Thompson (160) had P-O's pins, and Logan Walstrom (152) won by technical fall.

Ridge defeats Colts

NEW PARIS - Thanks to a 267 score from Ethan McCoy, the Chestnut Ridge rifle team beat Northern Cambria, 1,147-832.

The Lions also got a 251 from Kayla Bruning.

Northern was led by Evan Ludwig's 22 and Blair Hornick's 173.

Everett loses

EVERETT-Despite a score of 273 from Hunter Deremer, the Everett rifle team lost to Meyersdale, 1,251 to 1,238.

The Warriors' top shooter after Deremer was Clay Weyer with a 250. Meyersdale was led by Shane Wisseman with a 262.
