Karla Jo Smith, 41, Roaring Spring, a loving mother of six, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of Franklin and Deborah (Dodson) Dasher. She married Tim Smith on March 5, 1989, in Salemville.

Surviving are her parents of Salemville; her husband; six children: Miles J., serving in the National Guard in Lock Haven, and Paul M., Hanah Jo, Benjamin M., Isaac J. and Abigail G., all of Roaring Spring; a brother, Keith Dasher and wife, Trish, of Loysburg; and two sisters: Kristen Brunning and husband, Fred, and Kim Walker and husband, Dale, all of Salemville.

Karla graduated second in her class in 1988 from Northern Bedford County High School and was currently top of her class at the University of Phoenix, where she was taking online courses toward a degree in business management. She had been employed as a waitress for 15 years. She was a member of the German Seventh-Day Baptist Church, Salemville, where she formerly had taught Sunday school.

Karla loved crocheting, taking care of her children and cleaning her house. She was a "super" mom.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring (www.thompsonfh.com). A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at German Seventh-Day Baptist Church, Salemville, by Pastor Paul Manuel. Interment will be made in Salemville Cemetery.

Contributions in Karla's memory may be given to the Tim Smith Family Benefit Account at any M&T Bank location, including Roaring Spring, Martinsburg and Loysburg.
