KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Matt Niskanen scored in the eighth round of the shootout to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in a preseason game on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles defenseman Alec Martinez tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal at 13:43 of the third.
Evgeni Malkin deked Jonathan Bernier to the left in the first round of the shootout, but Jarret Stoll kept the Kings alive when he snapped a wrister past Marc-Andre Fleury.
Bernier finished with 39 saves and Fleury had 19.
Pittsburgh's Deryk Engelland and Chris Kunitz scored in the third period to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead.
Jarret Stoll opened the scoring for the Kings at 4:31 of the first period.
