STATE COLLEGE - A motorcyclist going the wrong way on Interstate 99 in Centre County died when he struck a tractor-trailer trying to avoid a collision, state police at Rockview report.
The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved his rig to the right and onto the highway's shoulder in an attempt to miss the motorcyclist, who was traveling north in the southbound lanes at 2:35 a.m. Monday, police said. The motorcycle hit the rig's fuel tank, front left corner of the trailer and the rear tractor tires.
The rider was thrown and came to a rest, along with the bike, in the median, police said.
The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the accident remains under investigation, police said.
