Stout, Fed getting raw deal

August 21, 2011
The Altoona Mirror

Here we go again - the Rudel/Giger connection has gone out of its way to disparage another pillar of the community.

Rudel's comment concerning Tom Stout and his peers of the Kelley Federation is uncalled for. The decision to cancel the Federation (NABF) games was made by intelligent, caring individuals who give up much of their time voluntarily for the good of our community. The decision was in no way a disservice to anyone.

Many times in sports there are tough decisions to make. Unfortunately, in today's society, there are far too many second-guessers like Rudel and Giger getting paid to create ill-feelings and create controversy.

A while back, Giger wrote an article alleging that Church League softball president Chris Moore was present while someone was using bad language. Giger stated that Moore was present but did not correct the situation. I'm not sure that all of that is true, but I would ask if Giger was present, why didn't he man up and say something?

I have been at different sporting events where a parent or spectator has told someone to stop the language.

Giger could disparage a good person like Chris Moore who volunteered many hours of his own time to see that the Church League went smoothly.

In conclusion, I would much rather have more pillars of the community (volunteers) living in my community than the dime-a-dozen second-guessers like Rudel and Giger who try to drag good people into the gutter with them.
