Four area softball players have been named to the Pennsylvania softball all-state first team.
Philipsburg-Osceola pitcher Chelsea Rex and shortstop Mackenzie Wilson and Central Cambria outfielder Kiersten Lorditch were named to the Class AA first team, and Claysburg-Kimmel pitcher Ronette Claar was named to the Class A team.
For Rex and Claar, it's their second time on the first team. Rex, who went 17-0 and led the Lady Mounties to a state title, will be a member of the St. Francis University softball team, while Claar will be a senior in the fall.
Central Cambria catcher Breanne James was named to the Class AA second team. Philipsburg-Osceola catcher Carly Gonder, first baseman Amanda Arnold and Kate Burge were honorable mention selections.
Burge, primarily a third baseman who was 7-1 as a pitcher filling in for the injured Rex, was chosen as a designated player.
Central Cambria shortstop Taylor Swatsworth and Chestnut Ridge's Stephanie McCoy were also honorable mention selections. McCoy pitched and played shortstop for the Lady Lions.
Claysburg-Kimmel second baseman Lydia Fleck, Northern Cambria outfielder Becky Britton and Juniata Valley's Heather Carper were named Class A honorable mention selections. Carper, a pitcher for the Lady Green Hornets, made it as a designated player.
The all-state teams were formed by a panel of statewide coaches and media members and sponsored by the Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association.
