August 4, 2011
From Mirror reports

Altoona Area's Christian Helsel is among appoximated 150 high school baseball players who have been participating in the East Coast Pro Showcase in Lakeland, Fla.

The event is operated by Major League Baseball scouts. In the dozen years of the showcase's existence, nearly 100 graduates of the event have been drafted, including 45 from 2006-09 alone. Josh Hamilton and Carl Crawford are among those that have taken part.

Helsel is a rising senior who plays shortstop and pitches for Altoona High and has been selected to the Altoona Mirror all-star first team three times. He originally committed to Texas Christian but has since changed his mind and now intends to play college baseball at the University of Mississippi.

Keystone reminder

The Mirror will publish Keystone State Games results from all area participants as part of one roundup following the event.

The Mirror also will accept photos of top three medalists. However, only gold medalist photos are guaranteed to be published; others will be published as space allows.

Please email information and photos by Aug. 5.
