Gary T. Latterner, 52, Milligans Cove Road, Manns Choice, died Sunday evening at UPMC Bedford Memorial.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late William "Sonny" and Anita "Jean" (Radcliffe) Latterner. He married Elizabeth A. "Beth" Bockhouse on Aug. 19, 2000.

Surviving are his wife; three stepsons: David C., Brandon L. and Daniel T. Grant, all at home; a sister, Darlene Skrupa of Gallitzin; and three brothers: Mike of Cresson, Bryon of Gallitzin and David of Elmora.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Chris.

Gary was a 1977 graduate of Penn Cambria High School. He was proud of his service to his country, first in the U.S. Army and then for 20 years in the National Guard, during which time he was deployed in 2003 to Kosovo as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Gary was employed as a corrections officer at Smithfield State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. He was known as an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, archery, fishing and four-wheeling.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford, Pastor Ryan Viands officiating. Interment will be held at Madley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the NHS Autism School, 1012 Eighth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. Checks should be made out to the NHS Foundation with "In Memory of Gary Latterner" in the memo line.
