Less than two weeks remain in the regular season of the Altoona Greater City Baseball League, yet much has yet to be decided.
In the All-American Amateur Baseball Association Division, Johnston Realty and Red Bull are engaged in a battle for the right to represent the league in the AAABA Regional Tournament.
Johnston Realty, thanks to going 3-0 this past week, including a huge win over ProActive Sports Wednesday evening at Juniata, and Red Bull are deadlocked at 18-4 with two games remaining for each team.
Johnston Realty holds the tie-breaker but must face City Division leader Lilly Conrad Chiropractic American Legion on Tuesday and then East Coast Gun Sales on Wedneday. Red Bull closes with East Coast Gun Sales on Monday and Barnes Petroleum on Wednesday.
In the City Division, Lilly had an even better week than Johnston Realty, winning all four of its games. The biggest victory come against Jeff Miller's Red Bull squad Tuesday in Lilly.
Lilly now boasts a record of 17-3, while ProActive sits 31/2 games back at 14-7.
Hot hitters:
n Brent Davison, Lilly's slugging outfielder, went 4-for-8, scored two runs, hit a double, slammed a homer and drove in five.
n Teammates, Matt Fisher and Jake Weibley, were two of the biggest reasons why Johnston Realty won all three games last week. Fisher went 6-for-12, scored five runs and had a double, triple and five RBIs. Weibley went 6-for-12, hit two doubles, scored four runs and knocked in seven.
n John Snyder of ProActive went 5-for-11, hit two doubles, scored six runs and had three RBIs.
Pitchers who excelled:
n Brent Milliron and Jay Baker combined on a four-hitter, combined to strike out three and walk just three in leading ProActive to a 5-2 win over Logan Beverage Monday at Juniata. Milliron notched the win, and Baker picked up the save.
n Lilly's Joe Shrift tossed a complete-game four-hitter, gave up two runs and fanned six against Ketrow Insurance Monday in Lilly.
n Matt Skoner of Lilly allowed just five hits, struck out one, allowed just one run and picked up the win in a big win over Red Bull Tuesday in Lilly.
n Christian Muth of Johnston Realty held ProActive to one run, struck out four and scattered eight hits Wednesday at Juniata.
n Red Bull's Derrick Younker and Nathan Pope combined to five-hit Sheetz Wednesday at Mansion Park. The duo shut out Sheetz and combined to fan seven hitters.
n Ryan Clouse struck out 10 Ketrow Insurance hitters Friday evening at Juniata for ProActive.
n ProActive's Mark Saxman fired a two-hit shutout against Sheetz on Saturday at Juniata.
Hot teams:
n Lilly went 4-0.
