Virginia defensive tackle Derek Dowrey has committed to the Penn State football team, multiple web sources reported late Saturday night.
Dowrey is 6-foot-3, and his weight has been listed anywhere from 279 to 300 pounds. He is from John Handley High School in Winchester, Va. and also had scholarship offers from West Virginia, East Carolina, Marshall and Richmond.
He becomes the fourth defensive tackle to commit to the Nittany Lions for 2012, joining Jamil Pollard, Jarron Jones and Brian Gaia. Penn State was believed to be looking to sign four DTs in this class and was involved with several big names before news broke of Dowrey's commitment.
There were also reports unconfirmed at press deadline that another lineman, Austin Johnson of New Jersey, has committed, as well. If that is true, Penn State will have 10 verbal commitments in its current recruiting class.
