Area singer wins award

LEMARS, IOWA - The Rural Roots Music Commission, which honors "rural country music," has selected Sandy Uttley of Huntingdon to receive its Best Legacy CD of the Year Award for her album "Sings Patsy Cline."

The group, sanctioned by the National Traditional Country Music Association, will present Uttley with the award at the NTCMA Festival on Aug. 29 in LeMars.

According to Uttley in a press release for the award, she recorded the album with former Cline associate Jim McCoy in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and got support from Cline's widower Charlie Dick and her daughter, Julie, during the recording.

In the release, NTCMA president Bob Everhart said: "Ms. Uttley has recorded one of the best Patsy Cline CDs the reviewers have heard in a very long time."

Blues great to play State

STATE COLLEGE - The State Theatre will present the return of The Robert Cray Band at 7 p.m. June 26. The group played the State Theatre last year, as well.

Blues legend Cray is a five-time Grammy Award winner who has been performing professionally for more than 30 years.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online at www.StateTickets.org, at the theater box office from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and by calling 272-0606 during box office hours.

Kid's musical bows June 24

STATE COLLEGE - The State Theatre and Singing on Stage will present "Annie Jr.," the classic Broadway musical with an all-kid cast at 7:30 p.m. June 24 and at 11 a.m. June 25.

This version of the show features children ages 5 to 10, with younger students as the orphans and older students in the leading roles.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at www.StateTickets.org, at the box office from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday or by calling 272-0606.

Concert series opens Sunday

The Blair County Historical Society will open its free Summer Concert on the Lawn series this Sunday at Baker Mansion, 3419 Oak Lane, Altoona.

All shows will begin at 2 p.m. on Sundays. The concert lineup is as follows:

* June 12 - The Santones (big band)

* June 19 - Altoona Community Band

* June 26 - Bob Myers (harpist)

* July 3 - Zupe (jazz, standards, classic rock)

* July 10 - Lou Stein (jazz)

* July 17 - Mountain City Grass (bluegrass)

* July 31 - Logan Guard (Civil War reenactment band)

* Aug. 7 - Hollidaysburg Alumni & Community Chorus

* Aug. 21 - Hollidaysburg Alumni & Community Band

* Aug. 28 - Altoona Area High School Band

* Sept. 4 - Jeanne Bolger

Resort holds Irish festival

SEVEN SPRINGS - Seven Springs Mountain Resort will hold the resort's first Irish Festival June 24 and 25.

Festival admission is $7 for adults and free for children under age 12. Parking is free.

Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. June 24 and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 25. Tickets can be purchased by calling 866-703-7625 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays, online at www.7springs.com or at the festival gates.
