WILLOW HILL - Chestnut Ridge scored five runs in the top of the seventh and then held on to beat Fannett-Metal, 9-7, Saturday afternoon in Sideling Hill League high school softball action.
Both teams split the series this year, which means both clubs will be declared co-champions as the two clubs begin play in the state playoffs Monday.
Ridge, the District 5 Class AA champion, will play District 6 runner-up Central Cambria at 4:30 p.m. at Bedford High School, and Fannett-Metal, the District 5 Class A champion, takes on District 6 champ Claysburg-Kimmel at 2 p.m. at University Park.
Winning pitcher Stefanie McCoy, who worked two innings for the win in relief, hit a three-run homer during a four-run fifth inning. She finished with three hits. Teammate Brittany Mock added a two-run homer during the seventh inning.
Ridge improved to 21-1, while Fannett-Metal fell to 19-2.
