The PIAA has announced the sites and times for its first-round baseball and softball playoff games scheduled for Monday.
The Central High School baseball team will be at a familiar venue, returning to Altoona's Blair County Ballpark to play Mohawk from the New Castle area in the second game of a doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. The Scarlet Dragons just defeated Mount Union in the District 6 championship game at BCB on Tuesday. They also played Mount Union in the district finals and state semifinals and Bermudian Springs in the PIAA Class AA championship last season and have been an annual participant in the Curve Classic at the Stadium.
Two other area baseball teams will be in action Monday afternoon. Also in Class AA, Bedford will face Waynesburg at Shanksville-Stonycreek High School at 4:30. In Class A, Bishop Carroll will travel to Homer City's First Commonwealth Field to meet up with Chartiers-Houston at 4.
A pair of area softball teams will battle while two other squads are part of a scheduled doubleheader. At Penn State's Lady Lion Softball Park, Claysburg-Kimmel will play a Class A game against the as-yet-to-be-determined District 5 champion at 2 p.m., followed by a Class AA matchup pitting Philipsburg-Osceola against South Allegheny.
Meanwhile, at Bedford Area High School's sports complex at 4:30, District 5 Class AA champion Chestnut Ridge is slated to tangle with District 6 runner-up Central Cambria.
