FERNDALE - A six-run sixth inning put an end to the Juniata Valley baseball season.
Leading 6-2 in the second round of the District 6 Class A high school baseball playoffs, Juniata Valley watched Ferndale score six runs - all with two outs - en route to an 8-6 victory and a matchup with Bishop Carroll in the semifinals.
Valley (13-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a Seth Carper three-run homer. Ethan Morrison hit a two-run shot in the top of the sixth for a 6-2 lead. However, Ian Helsel's three-run dinger keyed the six-run outburst, improving the Yellow Jackets to 14-4.
"David [Ormsby] was pitching a great game for us. He had only given up four hits at that point," Juniata Valley coach Bill Peters said. "I kept thinking he only needed one more out to get out of the inning, but that homer beat us."
Cody Patterson had four hits for Valley, while Rick Musser added three hits.
