Central knocks off Westmont

MARTINSBURG - Taylor Garman had three base hits, including a solo home run, and two RBIs for Central as the Lady Dragons beat Westmont Hilltop, 12-2, in the first round of the District 6 Class AA softball playoffs in five innings on Friady.

"I just felt like we were ready to play, and I felt that the energy from the opening pitch to the end of the game was there,'' Central coach Dale Walters said. "And the whole way, we hit through the lineup. It was a complete team effort."

Kate Blattenberger had two base hits and drove in three runs for the Lady Dragons. Ashley Smith and Blake Barnes chipped in with two hits and drove in two runs apiece.

Central will play at Central Cambria in the quarterfinals on Monday.
